One of the first three productions presented by the Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain, this grand French opera tells the story of a Spanish marquise named Miguela who falls in love with a French colonel during the Spanish War of Independence. Against a backdrop of escalating patriotic and religious tensions, our heroine finds herself navigating troubled waters in an attempt to reconcile love and duty, betrayal and loyalty, in a story filled with passion, courage, and moral dilemmas. Often comic, but always resolutely romantic, Miguela invites you to discover the major themes of late 19th century action-opera: betrayal, death, and the portrayal of strong female characters.
