This program brings together five composers active in Paris during the turbulent period from the reign of Louis XVI to the First Empire. À l’ombre de la révolution showcases François Devienne, Antoine Hugot, and Hélène de Montgeroult, who were integral to the development of the Conservatoire de musique directed by Bernard Sarrette. You will also hear Amédée Rasetti, one of Paris’s favourite composers during the last decades of the 18th century, as well as Czech composer Anton Reicha, who was inspired by Paris’s exciting musical culture at the turn of the 19th century.
